Africa’s First GCC-Registered Solar Triumph: Benban Solar Park Bundled Project

Africa's First GCC-Registered Solar Triumph

Project Overview: Transforming Energy and Emissions

Nestled in Egypt’s Benban region, the Benban Solar Park Bundled Project 2 is the first project from the African region registered with the Global Carbon Council (GCC). The Benban Solar Park Bundled Project 2 is a solar energy venture utilizing photovoltaic panels to generate 200 MW of renewable electricity. This initiative contributes 572,389  MWh of renewable electricity in Egypt, resulting in an estimated annual reduction of 285,050 metric tons of CO2 equivalent emissions.

Benban Solar Park: Leading the Solar Charge in Africa

Part of the larger Benban Solar Park, the project proudly holds the title of the largest solar initiative on the African continent. There are four additional Benban bundled projects registered with GCC, collectively comprising 17 individual photovoltaic solar power plant installations, each boasting around 50 MW capacity. Altogether, the total capacity of the projects is 830 MW.

The bundled project goes beyond the conventional by embodying the GCCM001 methodology for Renewable Energy Generation Projects, ensuring it aligns with the GCC’s stringent standards. With an annual average emission reduction of 11,65,358 tCO2e, it doesn’t just produce clean energy; it actively combats climate change. Collectively, it contributes around 23,40,074 MWh/ year of cleaner energy. This energy treasure is seamlessly integrated into Egypt’s national power grid, contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable energy ecosystem.
