GCC Calibration Workshop for Project Owners/Developers

Calibration Workshop for GCC Project Owners/Developers

Over 200 GHG emission reduction projects have been submitted to the GCC portal to date. In this context, and as part of the GCC’s efforts towards building climate action and carbon market instruments capacity, the GCC hosted the second Calibration Workshop for a different group of GCC Project Owners/Developers for this year on Tuesday, March 15th, 2022, that brought in over 40 participants from different industries/projects around the world. The main objective of the workshop was to help project owners better understand the GCC program.

As a voluntary carbon market platform, GCC certifies emission reductions projects at local, regional, and global levels, which contributes to the global efforts to reach Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting the earth average temperature increase to 1.5C. The workshop provided project owners with elaboration on:

  • Overview of the GCC program.
  • Overview of the GCC Project Owners’ roles in Registration & Issuance Process.
  • Recent regulatory updates.
  • Preparation of Letter of Authorization/Nomination.
  • Do-no-Net harm requirements on Environment (E+) and Society (S+).
  • SDG requirements (SDG+ label).
  • Quality improvement of the Project Submission Form (PSF).
  • Lessons Learned during Project and Emission Reduction Verifications.
  • Account opening and submission of request for registration & issuance.
  • Registration Interface: Demo of GCC Projects Portal.
  • Carbon Credits Issuance, Trade, Transfer & Retirement Interface: Demo of IHS Markit registry and meta registry

The types of questions raised during the workshop and the associated discussions showcased climate action contributions undertaken by the diverse GCC project owners. In this context, the GCC has acknowledged the important role participants play in addressing climate change challenges.
