GCC participates in 2nd Waste Management Conference & Exhibition 2022

Reinforcing its commitment to sustainable development, the Global Carbon Council (GCC) participated in the 2ⁿᵈ Waste Management Conference & Exhibition 2022 organized by Qatar Ministry of Municipality on June 13 and 14 in Doha, Qatar.

In line with Qatar National Vision 2030, the idea behind Waste Management Conference & Exhibition is to gather key players in optimizing the country’s circular economy strategies. Through this multisectoral forum, the organizers aim to develop a robust waste management system leveraged by academic research, latest technologies, and experience from advanced countries. To this end, GCC’s participation was aimed at creating awareness about the role of carbon market instruments in promoting climate action in waste management sector.

Representing GCC Operations team, Mr. Kishor Rajhansa, GCC’s Chief Operating Officer, presented on the first day during a session focused on circular economy for a sustainable solid waste management system. Starting with broader context of carbon markets in view of the Paris Agreement and their role in meeting countries’ NDCs, Mr. Rajhansa delved into waste management climate mitigation strategies that can qualify for carbon markets. He then introduced Global Carbon Council as a key instrument for businesses to meet their climate obligations.

The 2ⁿᵈ Waste Management Conference & Exhibition 2022 gathered participants and visitors representing local, regional and international businesses as well as government institutions. GCC’s participation in the two-day event resulted in piquing the interest of various stakeholders to better understand the role of carbon markets, particularly the GCC program.
