GCC’s full approval by ICROA adds to its credibility as a source of high-integrity carbon offsets. In the past, the organization also received full approval under the pilot phase of Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) of the United Nations’ International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Commenting on GCC’s renewed status, Founding Chairman, Dr. Yousef Alhorr said, “The recognition of GCC by ICROA not only represents our commitment to combat climate change but also validates the credibility of GCC’s carbon market and its issued carbon credits. By meeting ICROA’s voluntary carbon market standards, GCC has further strengthened its standing as a source of high-integrity carbon offsets derived from genuine GHG mitigation projects. This achievement is a significant milestone in our journey towards a low-carbon economy, and we are proud to be at the forefront of climate mitigation efforts in the Global South.”

GCC is the first and only voluntary greenhouse gas offsetting program based in the MENA region. Established in 2016 and operational since 2019, GCC aims to support a vision of a sustainable, low-carbon economies to support Paris Agreement objective to limit global warming within 1.5 deg C. GCC program aims to help businesses and organizations around the world to implement GHG reduction/avoidance/removal projects using voluntary carbon market instruments.
