To catalyze climate action at global level, the Global Carbon Council (GCC) believes that awareness and capacity building on carbon market instruments is the first step. As a part of its regular interactions with stakeholders, GCC started the series of webinars in 2022. GCC hosted an awareness webinar on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, gathering more than 40 professionals from different industries around the world and provided an overview of the GCC Program and its aim to help governments and private sector organizations meet their GHG Emission Reduction ambitions to contribute to 1.5 deg C goal of Paris Agreement.
Mr. Kishor Rajhansa, Chief Operations Officer, and Mr. Amit Thusu, Director-Climate Action highlighted the GCC’s increasing role in providing market instrument to contribute in addressing the global climate change challenge. Mr. Rajhansa elaborated the big picture and the positive impact of Article 6.2 decision on the actions under voluntary carbon markets. He also explained the Institutional Set Up of GCC Program and the larger objectives the program wishes to contribute to. Mr. Thusu explained the registration and carbon credit issuance process, recent regulatory updates, and eligible project types under the GCC.
Following the GCC presentations, Q&A was enabled, which initiated a productive discussion and the GCC operations team provided answers to all the questions raised by the participants.
