Global Carbon Council (GCC) held its first Advisory Board kick-off meeting on 29th October 2019 at St. Regis Doha, Qatar. The Advisory Board of GCC comprised of practitioners, researchers and policymakers who planned to meet three times a year to provide strategic direction and support to GCC’s program framework and activities. Following members of Advisory Board and GCC Operations Team attended the meeting.

Dr. Yousef Alhorr, the President of Advisory board and Global Carbon Council, opened the meeting and welcomed all the attendees and discussed the vision of the organization and its long-term strategy for Carbon Neutrality together with policies and measures required to achieve the set targeted goals.
Mr. Kishor Rajhansa Director-Carbon and Climate Action, and Coordinator of Advisory Board updated the Advisory Board members about the entire GCC Framework, and the strategic priority areas where members’ inputs and decisions are required.
GCC strategic priority areas discussed were as follows:
- Place for GCC in global voluntary carbon market;
- How GCC positions itself for driving climate actions and carbon neutrality;
- Regional and global reach as well as long-term goals of GCC;
- Target sectors and project types for GCC;
- Strategizing voluntary carbon credits vis-à-vis Internationally Transferrable Mitigation Outcomes (ITMO’s) covered under Article 6.2 of Paris Agreement;
- Demand of GCC carbon credits (Approved Carbon Reductions or ACRs) from various potential schemes including CORSIA;
- GCC’s support for FIFA World Cup- 2022 carbon neutrality.
After the discussions, board members were asked to continue providing their valuable feedback and the meeting concluded with the tentative schedule for future meeting dates.
