MENA Region Represented by GORD in the UNFCCC-EADB Workshop in Kampala, Uganda

The Regional Collaboration Center (RCC) of UNFCCC, and East African Development Bank, Kampala, Uganda  organized a workshop titled “Eastern and Southern African Non-State Actors Dialogue on Paris Agreement” on 18th July 2016 at Kampala, Uganda, fully supported by the German and Norwegian governments.

The objective of the workshop was to kick-start an active discussion among non-State regional experts on options for interpreting and operationalizing elements contained in Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. This article lays the foundation for instruments to implement domestic and/or collaborative climate actions within and between countries.

Climate Change is the most critical challenge faced by humanity as on date. Qatar and entire Middle East region is at the forefront of adverse climate impact, and have a big role to play in the mitigation of an adaptation to climate change. As per Dr. Yousef Al Horr, the Founding Chairman of Gulf Organisation for Research& Development (GORD) “GORD is taking a giant leap to create an enabling environment to stimulate climate actions for Qatar and the region in line with Universal Paris Agreement on Climate Change. GORD is willing to collaborate with United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to develop capacity of the region and step up climate policies and actions”.

In this context Mr. Kishor Rajhansa, Senior Sustainability and Carbon Advisor of GORD, took part in the dialogue as a regional climate expert and provided his views on the role of Article 6 in meeting the targets under Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) of the countries and any ambitions beyond INDCs.

GORD thanked RCC for the opportunity given to participate in the dialogue and represent the region. The participants of the workshop described it as a very conducive session.
