In a defining moment for the Global Carbon Council (GCC), we proudly mark the registration of our 50^th project with a special focus on the Sol do Sertão Renewable Energy Project. This not only signifies a significant milestone for the GCC but also represents South America’s debut in the GCC, underlining our commitment to global sustainability.

We are thrilled that Sol do Sertão, a project developed and exclusively owned by Essentia Energia, has achieved the groundbreaking milestone as the first project in Latin America to secure GCC approval and most importantly, receiving the Platinum grade. The Platinum stamp crowns the strong commitment that our team has with local communities surrounding our project and the broader environment.”

SDG contribution: food donations to the families in vulnerable situation

Nestled in the heart of Brazil’s Oliveira dos Brejinhos municipality, the Sol do Sertão Renewable Energy Project stands tall as a beacon of sustainable energy. these facilities seamlessly contribute 415 MW of pristine, clean energy to the National Interconnected System (SIN). Beyond its power-generating capabilities, the Sol do Sertão project aligns with and significantly contributes to various Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Hunger (SDG 2), Education (SDG 4), Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7), Economic Growth (SDG 8), and Climate Action (SDG 13).

The project aims to achieve annual average emission reductions of 344,958 tCO₂e per annum.

Local Environmental Sustainability:

Through the generation of renewable electricity with minimal environmental impact, Sol do Sertão exemplifies a commitment to preserving the local ecosystem.

Aligned with multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Sol do Sertão project significantly contributes to Hunger (SDG 2), Education (SDG 4), Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7), Economic Growth (SDG 8), and Climate Action (SDG 13). The project is expected to make substantial annual average emission reductions, marking a decade-long commitment to climate change mitigation.

Beyond electricity generation and climate change mitigation, the project actively contributes to SDGs 2, 4, and 8 by:

• Providing employment opportunities for local communities.
• Initiating the Food for Good Program, a voluntary food donation initiative addressing food insecurity.
• Facilitating a voluntary education program, including site visits and lectures related to renewable energy and sustainability for local schools and universities.
